Fundamentals of Yumeiho Therapy

The full name of the method is "Kotsuban Yumeiho", i.e. "Restoration of life energy by the correction of the pelvic position", which aptly summarizes its main premises. Yumeiho theory is based on the premise that the vast majority of people have an asymmetrical hip position ("misaligned centre of gravity"), which leads to excessive overloading of one lower limb and, over time, to a curving of the spine.

Muscle spasms occur restricting the circulation of blood and body fluids, which has negative effects not only on the musculoskeletal system, but also on the internal organs and the overall condition of the body. The main focus is therefore on correcting the position of the hip joints, which also entails the restoration of the natural curvature of the spine and elimination or alleviation of other difficulties.

Contraindications and Restrictions

Yumeiho is a highly efficient method, but its use must be adapted according to the client's health condition and in some cases, it is advised not to use it at all. It is essential that the client provides the therapist with all the relevant information about his medical condition. In case of doubt whether the therapy is suitable for you, feel free to make enquiry, in case of very serious health problems it is necessary to consult a physician.

Sometimes, it is necessary to postpone or even rule out the therapy, especially in the following cases:

  • feverish, infectious or acute inflammatory diseases
  • total exhaustion of the body or decrepitude
  • severe bleeding conditions, severe acute injuries
  • drunkenness, conditions under the influence of psychotropic substances, acute psychosis
  • first days of menstruation
  • abdominal diseases associated with inflammation or bleeding in the acute phase (on the other hand, in phase of remission, Yumeiho can be very helpful), acute infectious diarrhoeal diseases
  • acute lung disease
  • acute or very severe chronic diseases of the circulatory system

Serious diagnoses should be consulted with a physician, especially:

  • osteoporosis
  • atherosclerosis
  • serious blood diseases
  • severe kidney, liver, gallbladder diseases
  • tumour diseases
  • post-traumatic, post-operative conditions
  • skin diseases

In some conditions, Yumeiho treatment is possible, but the extent and intensity of the techniques applied must be adapted, e.g. in the following cases:

  • local purulent and fungal diseases
  • local wound sites of all kinds
  • during pregnancy and two months after childbirth (exclusion of abdominal massage, adjustment of positions)
  • in areas of varicose veins, venous inflammation or venous ulcers
  • artificial joints (manipulative techniques cannot be used)

How is it Done

The basic "kata" includes 100 special techniques applied all over the body. Yumeiho techniques are very diverse and include mainly point (acupressure) therapy, passive joint exercises, passive stretching, osteoarticular manipulation and special deep massage techniques.

During standard therapy, a complete kata is usually performed with possible restrictions according to the client's health and physical constitution. There are also several sets of additional techniques targeting individual problem areas (e.g. hips, neck, shoulder blades, knees, shoulders).

Therapy is performed on the floor on a special mat with client successively assuming different positions (sitting on the heels, lying on the stomach, side and back). The therapy is performed over clothing which should be light and comfortable.

Below you will find a short video and photo gallery demonstrating some of Yumeiho techniques.
